Sri Lanka Government Announces New EV Tax Concessions for 2026
The Sri Lankan government has announced a new tax concession framework for electric vehicles as part of its 2026 budget. Vehicles with battery capacities under 40kWh will benefit from a 30% reduction in import duties, while vehicles over 60kWh will see a 15% reduction. The policy aims to make entry-level EVs more accessible to middle-class Sri Lankans while encouraging the adoption of cleaner transportation. The concession is valid for vehicles registered before December 2026. Additionally, commercial electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure equipment will also benefit from reduced duties, incentivizing the expansion of public charging networks across the island.
